Wouldn’t want to forget it. Personally.

[Flirting? At a time like this? Sure. What else is there? She needs to bring some levity. Get on his good side. Her nerves are shot otherwise.

There’s a sheepish little smile, a bow of her head as she tries hiding how pink her cheeks are at the mere thought of their first meeting. Several meetings since. So much fondness for him and what they’ve done together. Get a grip, Wendy Lin.

Their fingers brush when he grabs for the thermos and she lets the touch linger for a bit before relinquishing the tea to him. He can have as much as he likes.]

Oh - uh. [How does she explain it? Shit.] It’s… basically… more of the same? Um…

[From the beginning? In the simplest of terms? What a fucking nightmare this is. Massively intelligent and can’t even string together some sentences - that’s her. She tries not to show how panicked she is. There’s lots and lots of awkward silence.]

Okay. [Big sigh. Big mood. Here we go.] So… where I’m from - it’s Earth, by the way, but I’m positive it’s a different one - the survival of the planet depended on… pleasing gods. [She starts wringing her hands while she walks and talks, not sure how to channel the negative energy. She has to do something.] Not many people knew about them or even believed they existed. But that was my job. I helped push off the apocalypse. A lot. We ran rituals. Followed the rules. Sacrificed people. Five lives in exchange for billions a few times a year. We weren’t the only Facility doing it. There was a network.

[There’s more. Much more. But that was a lot to start with. So she quiets.]
